The Isles of Scilly are a popular tourist destination as well as being a designated heritage and conservation area. Porth Conger quay on the inhabited St Agnes Island is used frequently by commercial passenger ferries and cargo handling vessels. The quay needed improvement and a comprehensive management plan and user guide were required.

Beckett Rankine was appointed as project managers of the renovation work at the quay. The quay was extended by ten metres and widened to allow the separation of passenger and vehicle traffic. The gradient of the deck was also reduced to make it easier to walk or drive on in wet conditions.

Rock armour was installed and the height of the wave wall increased to reduce the amount of water washing up over the quay. Following renovation work, a management plan and a public user guide were developed to ensure all types of users could safely operate at the quay.
