All harbour areas at Dunbar are owned by the Dunbar Harbour Trust, which is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and improvement works of all facilities for current and future uses of the harbour. Regular surveys of the facilities are therefore needed to ensure safety and quality standards remain satisfactory.
Beckett Rankine was appointed to undertake a survey of the harbour facilities that would provide advice on maintenance requirements for the walls and slipway. Cost estimates for future maintenance works were given and potential grant funding providers and contractors were identified.
The visual survey was carried out at low tide at Victoria and Cromwell harbours. Signs of weathering and damage, voids in brickwork and thick marine growth were identified as the main issues. A five-part repair programme was recommended, which included drawings and practical advice.
