Dredging International and CTOW had been asked to provide engineering, procurement and construction for the installation of a temporary Marine Operations Base jetty at Kwanda Base, Soyo, as part of the ongoing Angola LNG terminal facility project. The berthing facility needed to provide suitable mooring for tugs and supporting craft.
Beckett Rankine provided general arrangement and structural plans for the new 390 metre long berthing facility for 5 tugs 85t bollard pull)and 8 support craft within an 8 week timeframe. We also provided a vessel mooring plan, pile guides and specifications for works and provisions as well structural calculations.
Due to the time constraints, the berths were fabricated remotely in Europe and Nigeria with only the installation (including piling) and the commissioning performed on site. As the jetty was designed so that vessels could be moored both sides, a total jetty length of only 195 metres was required.
