The Port of Tanjung Pelapas was conceived as part of Malaysia’s 2020 plan and the project was designed and constructed within three years with the first berths completed and operational in 2000. Subsequent settlement of the wharf road behind the container berths had been discovered and remedial work was needed.

Beckett Rankine was asked to undertake a series of reports on the berth paving and to design, develop and implement appropriate repairs, including tenders for the work and site supervision. The work had to be carried out without delaying cargo handling in this very busy port.

The master plan of the port envisages over 95 berths with 150 million TEU terminal handling capacity making it the only port in South East Asia with long term potential to handle increasingly growing container traffic. The remedial work on the wharf road was vital to ensure the continuing growth of the port.
