Situated in the River Thames, Lot’s Ait or island was only accesible by boat except at low tide when it was possible to walk across from Brentford tide. A new footbridge was needed to link the island to the Brentford bank of the Thames as well as restoration of the boatyard so that it could become a useful working site again.

Beckett Rankine prepared an outline and detailed design and planning consents studies for the new footbridge across the river, as well as organising consents and licenses for its construction. We supervised construction work for both the bridge and regeneration works including the refurbishment of the main shed.

Lot’s Ait is now linked to the mainland at all tides by the new bridge and the revitalised boatyard, almost unique in being preserved in its original form, provides a new boatbuilding and repair resource on the Thames for boat owners and enthusiasts throughout the year.
