Beckett Rankine have submitted a radical proposal for the reuse of the clipper ship City of Adelaide to the Steering Group responsible for deciding the historic ship’s fate. We have developed our proposal jointly with Buro Happold with whom we are working on the conservation of the Cutty Sark. The two ships are of similar size and construction although the City of Adelaide is 4 years older than Cutty Sark having been built in Sunderland in 1864. They are the only two composite built merchant ships left in the World.
Our proposal has been prompted by plans to deconstruct the City of Adelaide and will be considered by the Steering Group at its next meeting on 30 July 2007. More details can be found here
