Construction work has now been completed on a major extension to Imperial Wharf Marina, adding a new 270m line of floating pontoons and almost doubling the marina’s berthing capacity.
Beckett Rankine was commissioned by Imperial Wharf Ltd to develop the concept design and oversee the extension’s construction, following our earlier work of designing the original marina that opened in 2010.
The completed scheme adds a second line of pontoons on the riverbank side of the existing marina, connected to the main landing pontoon by a linkspan that also doubles as a mooring arm to the marina’s most downstream pontoon.
The extension provides approximately 530m of additional berthing space for leisure vessels, significantly increasing capacity while maintaining a safe navigation distance on the Thames.
Beckett Rankine’s role involved the preliminary concept design of the pontoon arrangement, planning support and expert advice, detailed design of the mooring piles, management of the licensing and consents process, and supervision of the construction works.
The pontoons and linkspan were designed and fabricated by Inland & Coastal Marina Systems to match the style of the existing marina. TopBond carried out the piling works in June 2025, with Livetts Group and Inland & Coastal installing the pontoons in July of this year.
Imperial Wharf Marina now offers a greatly expanded mooring facility in central London, building on the original marina’s all-tide accessibility and provision of a high-quality berth for leisure vessels on the River Thames.
