Imperial Wharf Marina provides over 630m of berthing for leisure vessels up to the size of Dutch canal barges. Located on the north shore of the River Thames, the marina had a single finger of pontoons that was accessible at any tide.  

As Beckett Rankine designed the original marina, we were commissioned to design and oversee a new extension to expand the mooring capacity of the site. 

Our role was to: 

• carry out the preliminary concept design of the pontoon arrangement, 

• support the planning process including providing expert advice, 

• carry out Detailed Design of the mooring piles, 

• manage the licensing and consents process, and 

• supervise the construction works. 

The extension added a second finger of pontoons on the riverbank side of the original marina, connected to the main landing pontoon by a linkspan that also doubles as a mooring arm.  

At 270m long, the new extension provides an additional 530m of berthing space to the marina, almost doubling the capacity.  

The pontoons and linkspan were designed and fabricated by Inland & Coastal Marina Systems in keeping with the style of the existing structure.  

The piling works were completed in June 2025 by TopBond, ready for Livetts Group and Inland & Coastal to complete the pontoon installation in July 2026.
