The construction of the intertidal terraces at Wandsworth Riverside Quarter have been completed by Mackley Construction. These terraces are the first to be constructed on the Thames since the publication of the Environment Agency’s new ecological design guidance for estuary edges.
Beckett Rankine’s Jessica Kingham designed and supervised the construction work on the new flood defence wall and terraces meeting the stringent, and occasionally conflicting, requirements of the Environment Agency and the Port of London Authority.
Located at the confluence of the river Wandle and river Thames the terraces were required as an ecological mitigation measure for the Wandsworth Riverside Quarter Development. Mackley began work on site in August 2008; over the next 3 months the backfill levels will be monitored with the topsoil placed at the end of March and planting of native tidal marsh species at the end of May.
