Allan Beckett honoured in Arromanches, France

The French town of Arromanches is to honour Allan Beckett’s wartime design work for Mulberry Harbour by erecting a monument in his memory. The monument is to feature a replica of the ‘Kite’ anchor Allan designed to secure the floating roadways (which he also designed) The monument is due to be unveiled on June 6, the 65th anniversary of the D Day landings. Two New Civil Engineer articles on the event can be found here and here. The NCE’s excellent D Day 50th anniversary supplement has also now been made available on their website. For details of other commemorative events at Arromanches the blog site (in French) of the Association of Port Winston Churchill can be found here.

As Beckett Rankine’s own tribute to the 65th Anniversary of D Day we have made a selection of our Mulberry Harbour archive material available on line. To access this archive select the ‘Downloads’  tab on the Main Menu and then the ‘Mulberry Harbour Archive’ tab.
