Work is under way on constructing London’s latest passenger pier at St George’s Wharf in Vauxhall. In the photo the contractor, Red 7 Marine, is investigating a magnetic anomaly in the dredge area for the berth. The site is a sensitive one for unexploded ordnance as the Victoria line tube tunnels run beneath it. Beckett Rankine carried out a comprehensive UXO risk assessment prior to work starting on site culminating in a magnetometer survey in advance of the piling and dredging works. Our client for the project is St George South London. The pier’s pontoon and unusual bow shaped canting brow is being fabricated by Ravestein at their yard in Holland. Completion of the pier is programmed for the end of July.
