Local projects, national expertise, international experience
Over 10,000km of coastline, 130 inhabited islands, over 30 ferry routes, a rich history in maritime engineering, and a vibrant coastal and offshore industry makes Scotland a hotbed for maritime engineering.
Beckett Rankine has unrivalled experience in delivering maritime infrastructure projects in the UK and across the globe. From our Glasgow office, we channel this broad expertise into local solutions, employing Scottish contractors and suppliers wherever possible.

Orkney & Shetland Inter-Island Transport Studies
In 2015 and 2016, Orkney Islands Council and Shetland Islands Council commissioned Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance (STAG) studies for their respective areas to investigate the future of air and ferry services within the Orkney and Shetland Archipelagos.
Beckett Rankine produced working papers that summarised the specifics of each port or harbour in the Orkney & Shetland Islands, including: a high-level and non-technical overview of infrastructure at each location; a condition assessment; a review of shore-side assets; and commentary on the current state of repair of each facility.

RNLI Campbeltown pontoon replacement
The RNLI required a new pontoon structure for their all-weather lifeboat. They required an existing pontoon to be refurbished and used to replace the one in-situ, with the work meeting RNLI and national safety standards.
Beckett Rankine carried out a number of inspections and an options study. From this, we designed a refurbished pontoon, pontoon restraints, a bankseat and a brow access, as well as demolishing the original pontoon, all with minimal disruption to their operations.
Maritime heritage
The sea is woven into Scottish heritage. Scotland is home to many historic vessels, docks and infrastructure, some of which we are privileged to support with bespoke conservation project management initiatives.
