Beckett Rankine have been appointed to advise the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority on the improvement of the River Benue for navigation. The project covers 227km of the river between Lokoja and Makurdi. The Benue is a large braided river, around 2km wide, with many islands and sand bars present during the dry season. We are carrying out mathematical modeling of the river and design of dredging and river training works to extend the number of months a year when commercial navigation is possible. We are pleased to be working again with our Nigerian partner Allott (Nigeria) on this project which, being around 300km away from the sea, is an out of the ordinary one for us.
