Ports Mission to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait

Tim Beckett has just returned from the UKTI’s ports seminar mission to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. In the team photo taken in Jeddah Tim is seen with team leader David Howell of British Expertise and Jason Castelino of UKTI as well as fellow mission members John Owens of Portia, Mark Willbourn of BMT and Ian Cruikshank of HR Wallingford.

As well as the port of Jeddah the mission visited the port of Dammam where Tim was delighted that the port’s engineering staff remembered his father Allan Beckett. The planning, design and supervision of construction for the port of Dammam was started by Gordon Rankine’s grandfather, Sir Bruce White, in 1965 and taken over by Allan Beckett who saw it through to completion in the mid 1980s. The port staff were full of praise for how well the design of the port had stood the test of time. The photo below shows the impressive view from the port tower looking back over the container terminal.
