Newhaven has many quay structures that have recently required repairs. Over the years these have evolved as composite structures because of the strengthening needed to give greater water depth at the berths. For example, East Quay is a concrete gravity wall founded on timber piles with steel piles to support the crane piles.

Beckett Rankine have designed and supervised several quay repair projects at Newhaven. These have included installation of ground anchors to support the West Quay sheet pile wall, design of a steel pile underpinning system for East Quay and new fendering for ship berths.
