Harwich International Port needed a crew transfer vessel (CTV) berth to safely and efficiently move crews and loads between the nearby Galloper offshore wind farm and its shoreside operations & maintenance base.
Beckett Rankine designed and assisted with the construction supervision of a six-vessel berth for the high-speed catamarans. It consists of a 12x9m brow landing pontoon, five 20x6m floating berthing pontoons, the bankseat, and two linkspans with an intermediate platform.
We also designed the landside civil engineering works and pile design for the bankseat and pontoon moorings. A bird screen was added to the southern faces of the pontoon to minimise human activity disrupting wildlife.
Galloper’s CTV berth was completed in 2019, resulting in a high-quality, functional structure that is safe to use in all weather conditions and has the flexibility to evolve over time. The success of this project has set the standard for best practice in CTV pontoon design.
