A new berthing facility was needed by the client for the transfer of crew to their offshore Windfarm facility. Beckett Rankine was asked to design of all the marine structures including the pontoons, pontoon moorings, brows and support structures, as well as carrying out a stability check on the marine wall.
We designed the berths using similar specifications as those already constructed close to the new Walney O&M building. However, because the wave climate is more severe at this location, a correspondingly more robust design was adopted for the mooring arrangements and the movement of the pontoons themselves.
Beckett Rankine also advised on the tender process for construction of the shoreside facilities and inspected progress of the works on site. These service vessel pontoons will be used by engineers working on the project for at least the next 25 years.
