The final element of the Off Island Quays Renovations project has now been completed, with marine contractor Mulciber placing the 1200t of rock armour on St Agnes on behalf of principal contractor Nuttall John Martin.
The rock has been carefully selected from the De Lank quarry on Bodmin Moor to provide a colour match for the local stone, which was a requirement of the Environmental Impact Assessment conducted in 2005. The stones, weighing 3-8t each, were then transported to Par Quay to be taken to Scilly by barge. Beckett Rankine have been inspecting the rock in the quarry and at site to ensure the colour, size and quality is as required.
Guagan Jackson (pictured above, working for Beckett Rankine during his summer vacation from the University of Plymouth) inspects the rock at the quarry and indicates the final outline of the armour at the quay.
