The April 2011 edition of the African Review of Business and Technology magazine featured our Nigerian River Benue project, the article focuses on the site visit made by Tim Beckett and Attahiru Usman who feature on the magazine’s cover. Beckett Rankine is working with our Nigerian partner Allott (Nigeria) to advise the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority on dredging and improvements to navigation on the 227km stretch of river between Lokoja and Makurdi. The design solutions involve extensive river training works combined with localised dredging to confine the dry weather flow to a clearly defined channel. Surveys of water depths, bed samples and current flows are now under way – quite a feat of logistics on such a long and dynamic stretch of river!
