New Rowing Pier at Kew Bridge, River Thames

Installation of our latest new pier on the Thames is now complete and fully operational.
Situated on the north side of the river adjacent to Kew Bridge, the pier is linked to the St George PLC “Kew Bridge” development and is designed specifically for use by the local canoe and rowing clubs. The pier pontoon has a very low freeboard of only 400mm to facilitate the safe boarding of small vessels.

In addition to designing the pier Beckett Rankine also managed the applications for consents from the Environment Agency, the Port of London Authority and the Marine Management Organisation.

We prepared the specification and contract documentation for the tender for the construction of the new pier and then supervised its construction for St George.

The pontoon is similar in form to a rowing pier we designed in 2012 for Fulham Reach. Key design requirements were clean lines for a good visual appearance, clear brows and pontoon deck to facilitate handling of boats up to the size of an eight, and low maintenance.
