A new pier was installed in the River Thames at this central location adjacent to Waterloo Bridge. The principal use of the pier is to berth dinner-cruise vessels while collecting passengers. The innovative design enabled significant cost savings, while its performance and visual profile are an improvement on other piers in the area.

The structure was fabricated and installed for almost a third of the cost of similar conventional pier structures. This has been achieved by securing the pier on radial arm struts, thus avoiding the requirement for piled dolphins close to the berthing line. This is less visually intrusive, particularly at low water.
