Peruvian Wharf is located on the River Thames in the London Docklands region, close to the Thames Barrier and London City Airport. After a long history as a commercial cargo wharf, the site was cleared to make way for plans to redevelop the land. However, it remained a safeguarded river wharf site.

Beckett Rankine undertook an inspection of the river berth and other marine structures at Peruvian Wharf and the neighbouring Plaistow Wharf. The structures included steel and concrete sheet piled walls with campshedding, as well as a concrete deck supported by piles.

Peruvian Wharf has operated as a ship berth with cargo handling for more than 100 years. Initially, it was for bulk and bagged fertilisers until it was taken over by Tate & Lyle for the shipment of sugar and coal for their adjacent plant. In recent years, sea-dredged aggregates have been imported.
