As part of the Grimsby Fish Dock modernisation plan, new Windcat work boat berths were needed to support the development of the maintenance and operations centre for the offshore wind farms in the Greater Wash. To provide for the quick deployment of crew to the wind farms, the design of a head on berthing arrangement was required.

Beckett Rankine provided design assistance for the construction and installation of 6 ‘Dockmaster’ MK2 pontoon units and provided head on berthing for up to 4 Windcats, with specially built walk on platforms. For this design, unique strut linkspans were developed and fitted to the existing quay structure.

The head on berthing arrangement enables the fastest possible deployment of crew onto the Windcat workboats in line with the wind turbine facilities. The berth arrangement utilised available space with limited modifications to existing structures.
