Mark, Naval Architect

What is your day-to-day role?
I am a Naval Architect, so my focus is on stability and vessel strength calculations. However, at BR the work is always varied, so I also work on other engineering disciplines. I am currently working on several historic ship projects which involves managing the restorations on site and contracts as the Owner’s Representative.

What is your favourite project worked on?
I have worked on the Maritime Hull project since I joined BR. This project involves the restoration of the Arctic Corsair historic trawler and the Spurn Lightvessel. The project tells the story of the city’s seafaring history through the restoration of the ships and several maritime sites.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I am a keen sailor and regularly race in both yachts and dinghies. My real passion is for offshore yacht sailing and I have competed in five Fastnet races. The races are around the south of England and northern France, and often take multiple days.
