Beckett Rankine have been appointed to design the marine base at Ramsgate Harbour for servicing the London Array. The London Array is to be the world’s largest offshore wind farm and is being developed by a consortium of E.ON, Dong Energy and Masdar. Ramsgate outer harbour has been chosen for the wind farm’s operational service base where a fleet of up to 10 fast catamaran transfer vessels will be based.

BR is designing the mooring facilities for the marine base using the Dockmaster pontoon system. As well as crew transfer facilities the moorings are also to include a floating crane for shipping out larger items of equipment. Design challenges on the project are the exposure of the outer harbour for small craft mooring and the need to permit dredger access to the mooring area.
