James, Associate Director

Why did you join BR?
After several years in the onshore and offshore Oil and Gas industry, Beckett Rankine appealed to me due to the range of marine-based projects and its young and dynamic team. Being a niche, privately owned business also enabled quick and dynamic decision-making. Beckett Rankine’s client base also offered a lot of exciting projects to work on!

What is your favourite project worked on?
That’s a hard question as there’s been quite a few! My overall favourite was the Grain LNG Small Scale Bunkering barge, which was the UK’s first LNG Bunkering Terminal; but I also really enjoyed developing and supervising progress on the Peel Ports Twelve Quays Project in Liverpool, as well as Peel Ports Royal Bridge Pontoon in Sheerness. Working with the site team to stabilise and secure the future of the historic Charlestown Harbour was also a great honour, with the benefit of frequent visits to Cornwall!

What are your future aspirations?
My focus is to work with the wider Beckett Rankine team to expand our technical capabilities, improve overall quality, and ensure strong and steady growth across our three offices. I also want to continue and build upon our excellent track record of getting young engineers chartered. I’d like to continue my development across a number of fields which will help deepen and diversify our offering to the global market.
