Graduate Maritime Civil Engineer

Salary: £32,500 (MEng applicants), £29,500 (BEng applicants) per annum
Location: London / Bristol / Glasgow
Start date: Autumn 2024, flexible

We are seeking enthusiastic and highly motivated Civil Engineers to join our ICE-accredited graduate scheme.

At Beckett Rankine, you will work on a wide range of maritime projects both in the UK and overseas; from Thames piers and jetties to major West African ports, future-proofing coastal defences to the restoration of historic ships.

Our collaborative and personal working environment means you will be given greater responsibility and quickly gain experience across feasibility assessment, detailed design, project management and construction supervision.

About the role

Graduate engineers at Beckett Rankine are given a wide range of tasks and responsibilities, which can include:

  • Producing detailed design calculations using the latest engineering software packages;
  • Developing designs through computational and 3D printed models, alongside hand-drawn and digital sketches and drawing;
  • Working collaboratively within a project team to solve complex engineering problems;
  • Monitoring construction works to ensure quality and safety compliance;
  • Producing technical studies for statutory approvals, tender documentation;
  • Communicate ideas effectively with clients, contractors and sub-consultants;
  • Complete site inspections and accurately report findings;
  • Ensure project delivery is completed within time and budget constraints; and
  • Integrate sustainability across all aspects of work.

ICE accredited

Our graduate training scheme is fully accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), and you will be closely supported towards achieving professional Chartered Engineer status. Our training scheme has an excellent success rate due to the type and variety of project experience we are able to provide, alongside a mentoring system centred around your progress.

About you

We are looking for motivated graduates who embrace responsibility, flexibility, and learning.

Successful candidates should have the following attributes:

  • On course to achieve a 2:1 or above in Civil Engineering (BEng or MEng).
  • A passion for maritime civil engineering, with understanding and interest in structural design and naval architecture.
  • Commitment to professional development and achieving Chartered Engineer status.
  • Awareness of the wider civil engineering industry and emerging trends in construction techniques, technology, sustainability and regulations.
  • Strong team player who is able to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
  • IT skills and experience including MS Office, AutoCAD and structural / geotechnical / analysis software.
