The Opportunity:

Beckett Rankine is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Engineer / Senior Engineer who is actively working towards their chartership or recently chartered, working in geotechnical design. You do not need to have experience in maritime structures, although this is a bonus. This is a permanent role for a candidate who will ideally join our Central London head office, although we are open to candidates based in our Bristol or Glasgow offices, subject to discussion.

As a key member of our close-knit team, you will work with our experienced Principal Geotechnical Engineer and Senior staff as part of a growing department, adding your skillset to enhance Beckett Rankine’s geotechnical offer and develop the team.

You will be responsible for the delivery of reports and designs, as well as expected to support the management of project teams and client liaison. You will be a highly motivated, proactive individual who thrives when working in a diverse and friendly team. You will become a key coach and mentor for the less experienced team members to develop their design skills.

You will have technical expertise and experience relevant to ground investigations, design and specification of earth retaining structures, slope stability/revetment design, earthworks including ground improvement, and piled structures (both steel and concrete). You will ideally have experience of running projects and an awareness of or significant interest in the marine environment. We welcome applications from those with past experience working as consultants and/or contractors.

As the UK’s leading specialist maritime civil engineering consultancy, Beckett Rankine is regularly involved in projects which raise unusual design challenges; we therefore value innovative thinkers who respect, but are not constrained by, conventional design solutions.

Our projects range in scale from planning large new international port developments to the design of passenger piers on the Thames, or the inspection of an ageing maritime asset. Projects include port and harbour structures, infrastructure, flood defences, waterfront developments, jetties, quays, breakwaters and numerous other maritime infrastructure, around the UK and overseas.

The diversity and range of our projects require a flexible and adaptable character who is willing to take on bespoke challenges; for this, you will be rewarded with challenging and interesting project experience and opportunities to develop your career.

The successful candidate will have personal attributes that will help us to evolve our business, develop relationships with clients and deliver our projects effectively. Your role will be critical to the continuing growth of Beckett Rankine and you will be afforded the opportunity to develop and progress with the company.
