Anneka Rice reopens Bryher quay

Anneka Rice revisited Bryher in the Ises of Scilly to formally open the rebuilt Anneka’s Quay. Originally constructed in just 4 days for one of the ‘Challenge Anneka’ TV programmes the quay provided 18 years of service before it was decided to replace its original timber decking with a lower maintenance concrete deck; the quay has also been slightly lengthened to provide deeper water access. Both the original quay and the upgrade were designed for the Duchy of Cornwall by Beckett Rankine with the contractor for the upgrade being Nuttall John Martin.

The project also involves reconstruction of Church Quay on Bryher, Higher Town Quay on St Martins and Porth Conger Quay on St Agnes.

Anneka Rice lit a bonfire of the old decking at the opening ceremony with a TV crew in attendance for the BBC’s Island Parish documentary series
