Putney Town Rowing Club held a celebration for their 90th anniversary combined with inauguration of the magnificent new ramp to the River Thames at their Kew boathouse. Speeches were made by club member Geoff Adams as well as representatives from sponsors, which included Sport England and the London Marathon Charitable Trust. Then the Chairman of British Rowing, Ms Di Ellis, cut the red ribbon. An impressive display of boat launching followed and the Putney Town Members rowed past in style in a flotilla with over 20 rowing boats while friends watched from the new ramp. A number of “Boat Ramp” cakes had even been baked to mark the occasion!

This new ramp now makes it possible to launch rowing eights directly from the boathouse, which is far more convenient that the previous ramp that was out of sight, 100m along the towpath. The ramp combines a set of steps at the top with wider sloping platforms lower down to enable boating to continue at all states of the tide.
