Beckett Rankine and Datoba Construction have been appointed to design and construct a new fabrication yard loadout facility at Atyrau River Port in Kazakhstan. The facility is to be used for loading out large modules weighing up to 1,500 tonnes to flat top barges; the modules are for use in the oil fields of the Northern Caspian.
The site has an existing quay in poor condition which is to be demolished and replaced by a new combi wall backed by substantial piled loadout platforms. Dredging of the berth is also required. The load transfers are to be done using self propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) which will not only impose large quay edge loading but also require an absence of any projecting quay furniture, such as bollards, which will require the development of an inset mooring bollard detail.
