Dredging of Atash marine base in Kazakhstan progresses well and main contractor Datoba Construction now has three dredgers on site: a backhoe, a cutter suction dredger and the bucket dredger pictured. The first of the two reinforced concrete finger piers for the 600t capacity Marine Travelift has been cast in a single 350m3 pour; the second finger is due to be cast on 19 June. The casting operation can be viewed on the site webcam (see the project links page to access the webcam).
On shore the workshop and office building supplied by John Reid & Sons of Christchurch is nearing completion. Erection of the Travelift is now complete and the lift is ready for use once the finger piers and paving are cured. Land reclamation for the second phase of the base is continuing using the dredged arisings.
