As part of their City Deal with HM Government, Plymouth City Council is promoting the development of three disused dry docks for marine business activity in South Yard, Devonport. This is expected to become a hub for Marine Industries, which will incorporate ship repair and other much needed facilities. This exciting and innovative new project will create an estimated 1,200 new jobs and give the local economy an important boost.
Once up and running, the new development at South Yard will provide state of the art facilities for marine manufacturing, space for engineering and composites workshops and assembly areas and mobilisation, and will act as a catalyst for similar developments across the far south west, bringing additional investment and job opportunities to local people.
Beckett Rankine has been appointed by Plymouth City Council to provide a technical advisory consultancy team to support and develop the South Yard masterplan, and to produce overarching site concepts and strategies with preparation of a Waterfront Development Strategy.
As specialist marine consultants with professional engineering expertise and relevant engineering experience, we will work alongside other consultants and council staff as part of a team. We will provide specialist, high level advice to the Council as well as detailed technical advice on the use and development of Area 5 of South Yard with particular reference to the waterfront and the three historic, listed dry docks, as well as the jetties and associated infrastructure and facilities.
